Wet Collodion Printing of Churchill's Polar Bears
The wet collodion process, a 19th-century photographic technique, captures images with exceptional precision—perfect for immortalizing the beauty of polar bears in Churchill, Canada. This method involves coating a glass or metal plate with collodion, which is then sensitized with silver nitrate.

Born in 1970 in Flanders, Griet VAN MALDEREN became a wildlife photographer after a safari in South Africa in 2008. Passionate about Africa, her travels have taken her through various African countries as well as to Antarctica, Chile, Brazil, Canada, Norway, the Tonga Islands, and Japan. She specializes in black-and-white photography, sometimes tinted with sepia, and creates platinum and collodion prints. Her unique approach involves gaining the trust of her subjects to capture their genuine emotions, which gives her work a feminine touch. In addition to wildlife, she also photographs landscapes and portraits, revealing their strength and mystery.
