MAINTENANCE tips

Preamble

The noble materials we work with and transform are natural materials. As no two hides are alike, our creations reflect the diversity of nature itself: natural whites and blacks are never uniform in colour, and curly hides may vary, for example.

We celebrate this diversity, as it is what makes our objects so unique and rare. Purchasing a Norki product means accepting these variations in shades and this non-uniformity, far removed from standardized industrial products.

All Norki creations are made with the greatest care in our Alsatian workshop.
The rare materials we use do not require any vigilance but deserve to be maintained with care, almost lovingly.
You will find below some tips to make these handmade pieces last.

A torn or unstitched cushion lining, an open rug seam, each of our creations may also require a repair or a little rejuvenation. Our workshop will give you the best advice and will know how to make them beautiful again.

Please do not hesitate to contact us.

CARING FOR YOUR NORKI PIECE

The hides used in the manufacture of our products are living materials that evolve, soften, and patina, just like the leather of a club chair. Intrinsically waterproof, they are very easy to maintain.

-    Sheepskin and/or Shearling rugs, cushions, and seats: as with a wool or silk rug, we recommend vacuuming regularly. Do not hesitate to brush the hairs monthly with a stiff brush to prevent the wool from felting.
All our sheepskin and/or shearling rugs are delivered with a stiff brush.

-    Cowhide or Foal rugs, cushions, and seats: as with a wool or silk rug, we recommend vacuuming regularly.

-    Fur rugs, cushions, and seats: these rare materials require regular gentle brushing to preserve their initial beauty.
All our fur rugs are delivered with a soft brush.

-    Throws: regular gentle brushing will allow these exceptional pieces to last over time.
All our throws are delivered with a soft brush.

IN CASE OF A STAIN

Rub the area only with cold water and a small stiff brush.

Never use detergent or laundry detergent, as this may alter the appearance, color, and integrity of our pieces.

Never let a stain set in. The quicker you clean it, the easier the stain will disappear.

Never dry your hide with a heat source as this may cause the hide to shrink.

To restore the shine to your rugs, you can use “Terre de Sommières” – follow the instructions on the packaging. It must be used on dry pieces only.

AIRING YOUR NORKI PIECE

The materials we work with love fresh air.
Do not hesitate to air your rugs, throws, and cushions regularly, on a balcony for example (but always out of direct sunlight).

The materials we work with love the cold.
Like an old grandmother's recipe and if you have the opportunity, we recommend that you subject our products to thermal shocks.
The cold redensifies the material.

You can quickly "drag" – a few seconds – your rugs or cushions in the snow. This will restore their shine and ensure a deep clean.

Be sure to finish this step with a good brushing and vacuuming; your rugs, throws, and cushions will be like new.
