Bruno mathsson

(1907 – 1988)

Bruno Mathsson was a Swedish cabinetmaker and designer, born in 1907 in Värnamo, Sweden. He left a significant mark on Swedish design history, becoming one of its pioneers, particularly renowned for his famous strap chairs.

The son of a master cabinetmaker, Bruno Mathsson grew up in the town of Värnamo, located in the Småland region of Sweden. From an early age, he showed a keen interest in furniture, especially chairs, drawn to their functionality and aesthetics. Throughout his career, Bruno Mathsson distinguished himself by experimenting with innovative materials such as bent plywood, making a significant contribution to the development of modern Scandinavian design.

In the 1920s and 1930s, he developed a technique for manufacturing bentwood chairs, combining this material with hemp straps. His first model, named Grasshopper, was used at Värnamo Hospital in 1931. Later, Bruno Mathsson collaborated with DUX, creating classics such as the Jetson, Pernilla, and Karin chairs, all featuring generous and comfortable seating and continue to write their story in the world's most beautiful interiors with Norki.
