Pair of armchairs sourced and restored in-home.
Our seats are made of hides and furs. These are living materials that evolve over time. Hide is a naturally impermeable material which makes it very easy to clean.
Vacuuming your seat regularly. If stained, scrub the area with cold water only, without detergent or washing powder, you will risk changing the integrity of our products.
If your furniture has deteriorated, our workshop is able to respond to your request for your product repair and restoration. We invite you to contact our sales department.
Paying attention to where you place your seat will contribute to its longevity. It should be protected from damp and prolonged exposure to light.
Choose natural colours if you are exposed to strong sunlight, especially in the mountains, as they do not fade. If you opt for tinted skins, install anti-UV filters on the windows.
However, our tinted hides may lose colour saturation and fade slightly over time.
WORKSHOP SECRET
The Laila armchairs were designed in the 1950s by Ilmari Lappalainen for Asko, during a period when Scandinavian countries were redefining post-war modern living. This era championed practicality, warmth, and craftsmanship—values that are embodied in every curve and stitch of the ‘Laila’ design. With its deeply cushioned seat, button-tufted back, and organically flowing armrests, this model is a hallmark of Scandinavian comfort and aesthetic restraint.
More than just furniture, the Laila chairs reflect a lifestyle philosophy that prioritizes wellbeing, tactile pleasure, and timeless form. Their inviting silhouette is a direct response to the cultural shift towards creating intimate, human-centered living spaces. The chair's architecture subtly nods to the concept of "hygge"—the cozy, contented way of Nordic living—long before it became globally popular. Upholstered in sumptuous curly shearling and anchored by solid wood legs, these chairs remain a symbol of mid-century innovation. Whether placed in a modernist lounge or a warm eclectic setting, they add a sense of heritage and refined charm that transcends trends.
He was a renowned Finnish designer whose work helped define the golden age of Scandinavian modernism. Trained at the Central School of Applied Arts in Helsinki, he is best known for his collaborations with furniture manufacturer Asko, where he created pieces that blended functionality with understated elegance. Lappalainen's designs are characterized by organic curves, ergonomic precision, and a reverence for natural materials. His work reflects a deeply human-centered philosophy, where beauty is inseparable from comfort. Today, his creations are celebrated for their enduring charm and craftsmanship, and remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
