Step Back to the Future

A few months ago, to celebrate its 80th anniversary, IKEA unveiled the third edition of its Nytillverkad ('Newly Manufactured') Collection. The brand has reissued iconic pieces from the 1960s and 1970s, reimagined with new materials and vibrant colours. This limited-edition IKEA collection showcases iconic and playful pieces by influential IKEA designers, such as Karin Mobring, Ehlén Johansson, Gillis Lundgren, and Sven Fristedt. One of the standout pieces is the Mila armchair, released in the 1976 catalogue and renamed Dyvlinge for this collection. IKEA vintage creations continue to captivate enthusiasts and collectors, demonstrating the enduring appeal of IKEA's timeless design.

Spotlight on the Impala Armchair

Gillis Lundgren, the inventor of flat-packed furniture and designer of the famous Billy bookcase, created the Impala armchair for IKEA in 1972.

A visionary designer, he joined IKEA in 1954 and worked closely with its founder, Ingvar Kamprad. Kamprad was initially sceptical about the Impala armchair's success, finding its shape too "challenging".

However, this unique armchair (and its matching sofa) became very popular when it was first released.

The Impala, with its tubular frame, low-slung silhouette, and comfortable curves, evokes the spirit of the 1970s and is now one of the most sought-after pieces among collectors.

Spotlight on the Åke Armchair

The Åke armchair is one of the oldest models produced by IKEA. Created between 1952 and 1956, its design was inspired by the Claim Chair by Arnold Madsen (often attributed to designer Philip Arctander), although the exact identity of its creator remains unknown.

The Åke armchair captivates with its organic shape and gentle curves, offering exceptional comfort thanks to its slightly forward-tilting seat. Its armrests and four legs harmoniously complement the overall rounded impression of this armchair.

Åke furniture is among the most coveted vintage IKEA pieces, even reaching record prices at auctions. This series, produced over a relatively short period, has managed to establish itself as a classic of the brand.

The Norki Vintage Collection

Since 2019, Maison Norki has developed a Vintage Furniture Collection, primarily dedicated to Scandinavian vintage design from the 1930s to the 1970s. This collection was born from the passion of Sonia Linard, founder of Norki and avid collector, and her husband for the aesthetics of pieces from this period.

Scandinavian design is characterised by clean lines and minimalist elegance. These incredibly comfortable pieces reflect a way of life that, according to Maison Norki, deserves to be preserved. Therefore, it is only natural that some iconic IKEA pieces have joined the Norki Collection.

Each piece is meticulously sourced and selected. Once in our workshop, the vintage furniture is renovated, under the artistic direction of Sonia Linard, with unparalleled care and the utmost respect to pay homage to their original design.
